At the start of our Gold Rush City review, a welcome bonus of 15,000 Gold Coins and 500 Sweeps Coins caught our attention right away. But as we continued to explore the site we found several disappointing aspects.

Players aged 18 years or above can sign up from 39 US states, and in terms of games available, the brand currently offers around 250 slot titles, and a few fish shooters. However, the site is tricky to navigate, we found conflicting information in place, and there’s a distinct lack of ongoing promotions for existing players.

Gold Rush City is owned and operated by Play City Group LLC (PCG) and Gold Rush City is currently their only online sweepstakes site. During our research we found out that PCG uses the same brand name for its retail kiosks and a downloadable app. We will explain more about that a little later in our Gold Rush City review.

Gold Rush City promo code
is needed when you sign up, and you can play the games at Gold Rush City straight after completing a short registration process. However, the brand implements KYC verification checks, which must be completed before you can request a Sweeps Coin redemption. This requires uploading photo ID documents to confirm you are at least 18 years old and live in a state where the brand is allowed to operate.
Restricted States
Although Gold Rush City is available in 39 states, some state laws prohibit sweepstakes gaming. To prevent any infringement, the brand uses geolocation software to block access to the site if you are physically located on US tribal land, or in any of the following states:
California
Connecticut
Idaho
Massachusetts
Michigan
Nevada
New Jersey
New York
Utah
Washington
West Virginia
Virtual Currencies
As a sweepstakes brand, Gold Rush City does not allow real money gameplay on the site, so you’ll play the casino-style games using two virtual currencies: Gold Coins (GC) and Sweeps Coins (SC).
Gold Coins are used to play for fun and entertainment only, while Sweeps Coins are the site’s promotional currency. SC won through gameplay become redeemable once you’ve accumulated enough.
The Gold Rush City Welcome Bonus
Following registration, new players at Gold Rush City receive a welcome bonus of 15,000 Gold Coins and 500 Sweeps Coins.
This may seem like a lot of Sweeps Coins, compared to the sign up bonuses at other sweepstakes sites. As an example, the welcome offer we found during our
Lucky Bits Vegas review, gets you 20,000 GC and 2 Sweeps Coins. However, at Gold Rush City 100 SC equates to 1 SC at other sites.

Our Take on the Gold Rush City Website
Where sweepstakes sites typically favor a dark background and subtle highlights, Gold Rush City has gone the opposite way, opting for a white background with an oversized banner at the top, and large icons showing a selection of the available games.
The fixed left hand menu displays your GC and SC balances when you are logged in and then the following options:
Menu (dropdown)
Main Lobby
Popular
New
Leaderboards
Tournaments
Promotions
Play Responsibly
Unlike the arrangement we praised during our
MegaSpinz review, the Gold Rush City dropdown menu only contains a link to the Sweeps Rules, which barely seems worth the effort of adding it.
Most others appear self-explanatory, but we did encounter some odd things in terms of navigation for leaderboards, tournaments and promotions, which we’ll discuss a little later in this Gold Rush City review. The rest of the homepage is dedicated to game icons, with links to various documents like the T&Cs, Privacy Policy and Help found in the Footer section.
Confusion Surrounds the Gold Rush City App

Play on the go with Gold Rush City
When we set out to look at the options for mobile gaming, we were surprised to see that Gold Rush City mentions apps for iOS and Android within its FAQ section. However, there are no links visible on the main part of the website.
Our search of the App Store drew a blank, but we did find a Gold Rush City app on Google Play, which is the point where things became very confusing. The app doesn’t appear to relate to the online site much, the only similarity being the aesthetic appearance.
For example, in the description there are mentions eCredits rather than GC or SC, and different in-game items like gems and diamonds and a player chat. Further investigation revealed that Gold Rush City has a number of Kiosks placed in retail locations, but unfortunately the brand doesn’t provide details of where they can be found.
If you choose to use the app, you’ll need to register at a Kiosk where you’ll be given a unique 12-digit pin. We followed the link provided for the app T&Cs, which are different to those on the main website. One notable point being in respect of Sweeps Coin redemptions, with a 500 SC minimum for the app (a process which must also be completed at a Kiosk) and 10,000 SC on the main site.
Thankfully, it’s possible to play on the go using a mobile-optimized version of the Gold Rush City site, which we recommend you do unless you happen to have a Gold Rush City Kiosk in your local area.
The Gold Rush City Games Lobby
Gold Rush City offers roughly 250 games, mostly slots, plus a small collection of fish shooters. The brand seems to add new games most weeks, with the latest displayed on the main page banner. At the top of the page you’ll find a Search function, followed by menu options for Riversweeps Games, JILI Gaming, and Edge Labs.
Scrolling down the page revealed some well known games like Booming 7 Deluxe Legacy from Booming games, and Ancient Tumble from Relax Games. We also found some Megaways titles, including Temple Tumble Megaways and Howling Wolves Megaways.
However, most of the other games are simulations of popular slot series like Book Of, Bonanza, and Buffalo, which are all provided by Storm Gaming. There are also eight fish shooters developed by JILI Gaming, plus 17 games listed as Exclusives, provided by Edge Labs which include Bugs To Riches and Panda Shores.

Rewards and Ongoing Promotions at Gold Rush City
Unfortunately, this part of our Gold Rush City review makes disappointing reading. Firstly, the brand has yet to launch a loyalty program, although the About Us page states “VIP coming soon” with suggestions of multiple tiers and loyalty points, but no further detail.
We then moved onto ongoing promotions, where it became clear that Gold Rush City relies heavily on players making optional Gold Coin purchases. There is no daily login bonus, and no other promotions where you can collect free Gold Coins. You can receive free Sweeps Coins via the AMoE, but the amount you’ll get is undisclosed.
We found three leaderboard contests during our review:
Gold Rush
Spinfinity
Daily Tournament
However, each of those contests requires a Gold Coin purchase to enter.
Payment Options at Gold Rush City
The brand only offers Visa or Mastercard for optional Gold Coin purchases. There are various GC packages ranging in price from $0.99 to $224.99 all of which contain varying amounts of bonus Sweeps Coins.
Meanwhile, you can only use bank transfer when requesting a Sweeps Coin redemption, unless you use the app, where Kiosk options include Google Play. There is some disparity between the minimum amount of SC needed, with the app T&Cs stating 500 eligible SC, but the website FAQ stating a minimum of 10,000 SC.

Disappointingly Limited Support for Gold Rush City Players
Unlike the varied support options we found during our
Cazino review, Gold Rush City relies quite heavily on players using the FAQ section to answer most queries. Although there is a fair bit of information in that section of the site, navigating through it is not intuitive, and we did find conflicting information in parts.
We spotted a live chat icon on the main Help Center page, but clicking on it simply takes you to a web contact form, which is a little misleading. The brand also has a support email address, but it doesn’t seem to be manned consistently. So a reply can take anything from one to 12 hours based on our experience.

Our Take on the Gold Rush City Sweepstakes Casino
Following a rather frustrating Gold Rush City review we didn’t find anything so badly wrong that we would tell you not to play there. In many ways the brand is on the right track, and we have no concerns about security. KYC processes are thorough, and the brand has some interesting games.
However, we believe that Gold Rush City has lost its way a little when it comes to its website. There seems to have been much more focus on the app and retail Kiosks, than on progressing the online site. This has resulted in an incomplete VIP program, and limited ongoing promotions. If you are content with playing some unique games, then you’ll probably enjoy Gold Rush City, but we think there are some better options available.
