Most people assume Crypto.com sports betting means picking winners and placing bets like you would on other sportsbooks. But that’s not the case. There’s no sportsbook on Crypto.com, but there is something completely different.

Top Crypto.com Alternative for October

What you’ll find instead is called Sports Event Trading, a product launched in late 2024 and regulated at the federal level. It feels more like trading than traditional sports betting. You’re choosing Yes or No on fixed-outcome contracts, not betting against a sportsbook. After using it ourselves, we put together everything you need to know about how it works.

How Crypto.com Compares to Sports Betting

When we first saw this feature on our Crypto.com prediction markets review, it felt like something between sports betting and trading binary options. However, you’re not entering a sportsbook, you’re trading fixed-outcome contracts on sports results.

Let’s say the 49ers are playing the Cowboys. The contract might be “Will the 49ers win? Yes or No?” Each contract is available in $1, $10, or $100 tiers. If you buy a $10 “Yes” and the 49ers win, you get $10. If they lose, your risk is capped at the amount you placed. That’s it. Your maximum loss is your purchase price.

And prices change in real time. A $10 “Yes” might be selling at $7.50 pregame, which means the market sees a 75% implied chance of it happening. The lower the price, the more upside if you’re right. You can also close your trade early if things shift mid-game or if you’re watching pregame odds fluctuate.

How It’s Different from a Sportsbook

This isn’t just about how it looks, it’s about how it’s regulated, structured, and managed. Sports Event Trading on Crypto.com plays by a very different rulebook compared to your standard state-licensed sportsbook.

Regulation

Crypto.com’s Sports Event Trading is regulated at the federal level by the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission), not by individual state gambling commissions. That’s a huge shift in how this product is viewed legally.

Venue

It’s all handled through Crypto.com Derivatives North America (CDNA), a fully licensed exchange and clearinghouse. They’ve got the full CFTC setup, DCM (Designated Contract Market), DCO (Derivatives Clearing Organization), and FCM (Futures Commission Merchant).

Mechanics

This isn’t a house-versus-player setup. It runs like a trading exchange with an order book, live market prices, and Yes/No contracts across $1, $10, and $100 tiers. Prices move in real time, and you can trade in or out before settlement.

Payouts

Each contract has a fixed payout based on the tier. If you’re right, you get the full contract value, no more, no less. There are no partial wins or odds multipliers like you’d find on a sportsbook.

Risk

What stands out the most is that you always know exactly how much you’re risking, it’s the cost of the contract plus fees. That’s it. There’s no exposure beyond what you paid to enter.

Sponsored by Crypto.com – Not investment advice. Trading prediction markets and crypto involves risk, including potential loss of your stake. Consider your risk tolerance before participating. Crypto.com connects U.S. users to CDNA (regulated by CFTC) for derivatives trading. CDNA membership required. Trading may not be suitable for all—you could lose your entire investment plus fees. Past performance doesn’t guarantee future results. This is not a solicitation or recommendation to trade.

Where Can You Use It?

Crypto.com’s Sports Event Trading is only available in the U.S. Not just a few states though, they say it is “available throughout the U.S.” That seems to be true, but now with the exception of Nevada. That said, you still need to go through a verification process. To access the trading feature, you’ll complete onboarding with CDNA, which includes KYC checks and setting up a USD Cash Account. If you’re already using the Crypto.com app, you’ll find it under the Sports tab.

As far as we could tell, availability doesn’t change by state (unlike most sportsbooks), which is a big deal. But since this is a CFTC-regulated product, you’ll still need to be at least 18 and meet standard verification requirements.

How to Use the Feature

Setting things up wasn’t hard, but it’s more involved than just logging in and picking a side. Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up to the Crypto.com app through the banners on this page (or use web version).

  2. Head to the Sports tab and start the onboarding for CDNA.

  3. Verify your identity and create a USD Cash Account.

  4. Fund your account either via:

    • ACH or wire transfer
    • Or convert crypto (like BTC or ETH) to USD instantly via the in-app “Crypto Funding” tool
  5. Browse available games and pick a market.

  6. Choose “Yes” or “No,” select your contract tier ($1/$10/$100), and pick how many contracts you want.

  7. Check the Estimated Total, which includes fees and slippage, then place your order.

Your open positions show in the app like a portfolio, you can close them before the game ends, or hold them to expiration. If your outcome was correct, your payout lands in USD the next business day.

Fees, Limits & How Payouts Work

Crypto.com doesn’t bury the fine print. Everything around Crypto.com fees and limits is laid out pretty clearly once you’re in the Sports Event Trading section. Every trade has two potential costs, and both depend on the contract tier you’re using.

Trading Fee

This one hits when you open a position. The amount depends on whether you’re in the $1, $10, or $100 tier. For example:

  • $1 tier = $0.02 trading fee
  • $10 tier = $0.20 trading fee
  • $100 tier = $1.99 trading fee

It’s automatically added to your estimated total before you place the order, so there’s no surprise charge afterward.

Settlement Fee

If you hold the contract to expiry, meaning you don’t close early and just let it ride, there’s a small settlement fee added:

  • $1 tier = $0.01
  • $10 tier = $0.10
  • $100 tier = $0.50

If you close your position before the result is final, you skip this fee entirely.

Payouts

All payouts are made in USD to your Cash Account on Crypto.com. If your contract was right, you’ll get the full tier value the next business day after the event settles. No waiting days or guessing when it hits. If the result’s finalized on Sunday, expect it by Monday or Tuesday depending on the time.

Which Markets Are Available?

Markets are super simple compared to sportsbooks, no complicated props or same-game setups. You’ll usually see three types:

Sportsbook TermCDNA Market NameExample
MoneylineWinnerWill Kansas City win?
SpreadSpreadWill Miami cover +3.5?
TotalsTotalsWill the total be over 45.5?

There’s also a “More Markets” section for some games, especially NFL and NBA. But most of what we traded was one of those core three. You’ll want to keep an eye on which markets are live, availability can shift depending on the sport and timing.

Predictive Sports Trading Tips

This isn’t financial advice, but if you’re brand new to this style of sports trading, here are a few things we learned fast:

  • 👀 Watch the price

A $10 contract priced at $6 means the market thinks there’s a 60% chance it’ll hit. If you’re right, you’ll pocket $4 in winnings. That price acts as the implied probability, so read it like you would odds.

  • ⏰ Liquidity drops near game time

About 10 minutes before kickoff, things can get sketchy. Books thin out, spreads widen, and it might take longer to get your order filled. Moving early gives you better flexibility.

  • 📊 Use limit orders

You can set limit orders to avoid slippage or bad fills, but thin markets might leave you hanging. If you’re trading higher tiers, watch for volume before locking in a price.

  • 🚪 Know when to close early

You don’t have to hold on to the bitter end. If things are moving your way or turning against you, closing early can lock in a smaller win or prevent a total wipeout.

  • 📰 Stay alert for breaking news

Player injuries or last-minute lineup changes can flip everything. If a star QB is suddenly out, contract prices will swing hard. If you’re quick, you can trade around that volatility.

You Won’t Find Traditional Sports Betting at Crypto.com

If you’re into sports and like the idea of managing risk with clear costs and outcomes, Crypto.com’s Sports Event Trading is a great pick. It’s not a sportsbook, it’s something entirely different. You get fixed payouts, real market movement, and the option to close out any time. And since it’s regulated by the CFTC, this is a legitimate and safe platform.
