An Introduction to Prediction Markets at Crypto.com

The first step is to understand how prediction markets work. The premise is simple – you are predicting whether or not you think a proposition will occur. You can choose either “Yes”, or “No”. You then purchase what are called trade contracts relating to your position for the proposition.

Ultimately, you can either sell your trade contracts if they increase in value, or wait until the event occurs to see if your prediction was correct, to get a payout. You buy or sell the trade contracts at whatever market value they are listed for on the Crypto.com exchange, but there is also a fixed payout value if your prediction is correct when the event occurs which you can hold out for. At Crypto.com, you can buy two types of contracts – $1 or $10, and the payout if you make the correct prediction is either $1 or $10 per contract, respectively.

Let’s look at a simple example. There could be a Crypto.com sports prediction for the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the NBA Finals again in 2026. You purchase 1000 “Yes” trade contracts at $0.75 each ($750.00). As time progresses, the “Yes” trading price on Crypto.com might increase to $0.87 each – you could then sell your 1000 trade contracts at $0.87 each (minus Crypto.com fees) to make a profit. Alternatively, you could hold out until the event is determined, and if Oklahoma did win the NBA Finals, your 1,000 “Yes” trade contracts would payout $1 each, or give you $1,000 back, minus fees.

Crypto.com Trading Fees for Prediction Markets Explained

Whether you’re using the Crypto.com app or desktop website, there shouldn’t be any deposit fees when you credit your account. There might be withdrawal fees but this depends on the payment method and financial provider that you use. For example, there can be crypto gas fees depending on which cryptocurrency you use, and there can be a $45 USD fiat withdrawal fee applied.

The main Crypto.com trading fees you need to be aware of are the fees per contract, and the operator has a set fee structure based on the different types of actions relating to prediction markets:

Action Fee for each $1 trade contract Fee for each $10 trade contract
Open a position Exchange fee: $0.02 Tech Fee: N/A Exchange fee: $0.10 Tech Fee: £0.10
Close a position before it expires Exchange fee: $0.02 Tech Fee: N/A Exchange fee: $0.10 Tech Fee: $0.10
Position settles in-the-money Exchange fee: N/A Tech Fee: N/A Exchange fee: $0.10 Tech Fee: N/A
Position settles out-of-the-money No Fees No Fees
  • 🟢 Open a Position

Opening a position is essentially buying a “yes” or “no” trade contract. The fee is either $0.02 or $0.10. For example, if you bought 1,000x $1 trade contracts, your total fee would be $20.00 (1000 x $0.02).

  • 🔴 Close a Position Before Expiry

Closing a position is when you sell a “yes” or “no” trade contract before the event occurs. For example, the trade contract might have increased in price for the option you chose, so you decide to sell early and take the profit.

  • 🏆 Position Settles “In-the-Money”

If your position settles “in-the-money”, this essentially means you got the prediction right, and your trade contracts will payout either their $1 or $10 value. For $1 trade contracts, there is no fee, whereas there is an effective 1% fee for $10 contracts.

  • 🚫 Position Settles “Out-of-the-Money”

If your position settles “out-of-the-money” this means that you got the prediction wrong, and you get nothing in return.
