If you enjoy Ancient Egypt-themed slots, you’ll definitely enjoy the Book of Ra Deluxe demo game by Novamatic Studio. The Book of Ra franchise has seen several sequels over the years, including this deluxe version, which was released in 2019.
This slot immerses you in a treasure-hunting adventure alongside an Indiana Jones-inspired explorer. It boasts an expanding symbols mechanic, a free spins round, and high volatility, which makes it a very entertaining game. On this page, we’ll walk you through all you need to know about the Book of Ra Deluxe slot. So, stick around to learn more.
Book of Ra Deluxe is among the most widely recognized
online slots
in the Novomatic library. When we first launched this game, everything felt familiar, even if we hadn’t played it before.
This slot incorporates an Ancient Egypt theme where you’ll find pyramids in the distance, a desert sky, and a 5 x 3 grid filled with a golden Egyptian theme.
We found an Indiana Jones character symbol sitting at the top of the paytable. It also has symbols of Pharaoh, a golden idol, and a scarab beetle. At the lower end of the paytable, you’ll find card values of 10, J, Q, K, and A. At the center of these symbols is the Book of Ra itself, which serves as both the Wild and the Scatter.
Beyond the visual experience, the game’s audio takes on a classic casino tune. It has a steady background hum that rises a bit when you activate a bonus feature or hit a winning combination.
Standout Book of Ra Deluxe Slot Features
After playing a few rounds, we realized there were not many features available in this slot. Novomatic did well to keep the game simple enough to entertain you. That said, we noted the following:
The Book of Ra Symbol
It’s the most important symbol, serving as both a Wild and a Scatter. As the former, it substitutes for other symbols to help complete a potential winning combination. And if the book symbol forms a win on its own, it can provide a maximum multiplier of up to 200x your wager. As a Scatter, it triggers the game’s free spins round, provided you land 3+ Scatter symbols.
Free Spins and Special Expanding Symbol
When you land 3+ Book of Ra symbols, you trigger the bonus round and receive 10 free spins. But before the round officially starts, the game randomly selects a symbol, which will become the special expanding symbol for the duration of the bonus.
When this symbol appears during the free spins round, it has the potential to expand vertically to cover the entire reel it’s on. Interestingly, it can award up to 5,000x your total stake.
Gamble Feature
It’s another feature we’d like to mention. It appears when you win in the base game round. If you choose to play it, you can double your potential win for that round. All you have to do is simply guess the color of the next card to be turned over (red or black). You can also quadruple your potential win if you guess the suit of the card correctly (Ace, Club, Heart, or Diamond).
What Does Book of Ra Deluxe Do Well?
Here are a few aspects of this game that we enjoyed playing:
🔍 Expanding symbol mechanic
Book of Ra Deluxe slot introduces an expanding symbol mechanic that’s done right. When the book opens, it reveals a special symbol that can potentially multiply your winnings up to 200x. It’s a simple-to-understand mechanic that keeps gameplay exciting each time it triggers.
📱 The demo version works
The Book of Ra Deluxe demo gives players complete access to all features without spending a dime. Interestingly, some of our top-rated sites provided
no deposit casino bonus, in the form of free spins or small amounts of real money, for you to test different slots before making any financial commitment.
📲 Clean mobile performance
We appreciate how this game adapts well to smaller screens. From our experience, the bet controls and spin buttons work intuitively on smartphones.
How Could the Book of Ra Deluxe Slot Be Better?
There are a few drawbacks that could be improved if anyone on the Novomatic team is listening. They include:
The RTP Is Lower Than the Industry Standard
A 95.1% RTP was competitive when the slot launched 7 years ago. But by modern-day standards, where newer releases come in at 96+% RTP, Book of Ra Deluxe sits at the lower end. Some casinos even run it at a lower level than this default data. So, we recommend checking the game’s paytable at your preferred platform before you begin.
Limited Bonus Round Variety
Besides the free spins round and the special expanding symbol, the game doesn’t have a lot of extra features. While the gamble feature appears during a base game win, they don’t occur very often due to the slot’s high volatility. Book of Ra Deluxe slot rewards patience, but it requires a lot of it.
Does the Book of Ra Deluxe Slot Stay Entertaining?
Based on our tests, we can say yes, and with good reasons. While the base game is quiet by design, it’s all part of the high-volatility experience. But what makes this slot deserving of your attention is the free spins round.
Once the Book of Ra symbol opens and the special expanding symbol is selected, your entire gaming session shifts. And when it expands across multiple reels at once, you enjoy a potential payout.
Our Verdict: Enjoy the Book of Ra Deluxe Slot Today
Novomatic Studio built a slot with an expanding-symbol mechanic that was released in 2019, but it’s still potentially rewarding to play and enjoy today. We love how well-executed the Egyptian theme is, and how its Book symbol acts as both a Wild and a Scatter.
That said, patience is part of the gameplay here, and the base game can run quietly for a while. So, we recommend trying the demo first at any of our recommended casinos by clicking the banners on this page. When you’re comfortable, deposit real money and enjoy your gameplay right away.
