Software supplier Softswiss has appointed Brazilian racing legend Rubens Barrichello as its non-executive director in Latin America.

Barrichello was a Formula One driver between 1993 and 2011, who won 11 Grands Prix during his career.

His journey in the sport included stints with the Jordan and Stewart teams before joining Ferrari from 2000 to 2005, where he served as Michael Schumacher’s teammate.

Barrichello clinched the championship runner-up title in 2002 and 2004, while securing third place in 2001.

Following his tenure with Ferrari, he continued his racing journey with Honda and Williams.

Softswiss said Barrichello’s Formula One legacy, coupled with his influential persona, would help the firm “to authentically connect with the local tech community and build a robust presence in the region.”

The supplier added Barrichello brings leadership wisdom and best teamwork practices to the Softswiss table.

Moreover, the firm plans to leverage Barrichello’s deep-rooted experience in sports to improve its sports betting platform and other products.

A strategic step

The appointment of Barrichello, who will also advocate for responsible gambling alongside Softswiss experts, is seen as the next strategic step for the company in Latin America, especially in Brazil’s fast-growing market.

“Softswiss welcomes Rubens Barrichello on board! Having him join our team is a strategic step for us,” said Softswiss founder Ivan Montik.

“Barrichello’s collaborative prowess on the racing track in a highly competitive tech sphere, resulting in team victories, mirrors Softswiss’ partnership approach.

“His involvement testifies to our commitment to Brazil and helps us adapt the best global practices to the local market.”

Barrichello added: “The iGaming field has shown remarkable growth both in Brazil and globally.

“Joining Softswiss, I am delighted to become one of the drivers of this process in Latin America! I am sure my background with the leading racing team will propel the iGaming tech leader towards success in the region.”

Softswiss today counts over 2,000 employees based in Malta, Poland and Georgia.
