Kindred Group has revealed that 4% of its total Q4 2021 revenue has come from the harmful gambling behaviour of its consumers.

The Stockholm-listed operator has taken the decision to publish the statistic each quarter as it documents a journey towards zero revenue derived from gambling-related harm.

The strategy was launched in 2020 and Kindred intends to reach its zero target by 2023.

The Q4 total of 4% represents a quarter-on-quarter increase of 0.7% from Q3, which Kindred has attributed to seasonality, describing the holiday period as “a sensitive time for some people” that historically witnesses a rise in high-risk gambling behaviour every year.

Kindred also said withdrawing its services to Dutch consumers was a factor behind the rise.

Kindred Group CEO Henrik Tjärnström said: “Despite the share of revenue from harmful gambling increasing this quarter we remain dedicated and focused on our journey towards zero.

“While we are not pleased that the trend remains flat over the last year, we have known from the beginning that we won’t solve this overnight, and we know there is still work to do.

“We have committed ourselves to this ambition and we will continue to work towards reaching zero per cent revenue from harmful gambling,” he added.

According to the latest data from the operator, there was an annual high “improvement after intervention” rate of 79.2% in Q4, up from 64.9% in Q3.

Kindred said it would focus on implementing earlier interventions in future quarters, some of which can be automated for a lower-risk group of consumers.

Kindred Group will publish its Q4 2021 results on 9 February, adding further context to the 4% figure.
