DraftKings has struck an exclusive deal to become the official sportsbook provider to the Oregon Lottery.

DraftKings Sportsbook will replace the Oregon Lottery’s existing Scoreboard sports betting app from 18 January. At this time, Scoreboard customers will be able to create a DraftKings account and transfer their existing funds from wallet to wallet.

The Scoreboard app will be stripped of functionality after the migration, although bettors will still have access to their transaction history and account information.

Customers will be able to withdraw funds for six months post-migration and any open bets in Scoreboard accounts will remain as they are until settled.

“DraftKings is thrilled to embark on this journey with the Oregon Lottery as we build out a coast-to-coast presence with our top-rated online sportsbook for these fans to experience ahead of the NFL play-offs and Super Bowl,” said DraftKings co-founder and product chief Paul Liberman.

“The Oregon Lottery shares our innovative spirit as one of the most progressive organisations in the real-money gaming sector, and together we look forward to delivering the exceptional online sportsbook products that Oregonians have been anticipating.”

DraftKings’ in-house betting platform SBTech has powered the Scoreboard app since it launched in 2019, with operations overseen by the Oregon Lottery management team.

DraftKings will now take charge to offer an “improved experience” to customers, according to the lottery operator.

The switch was first suggested by Oregon Lottery director Barry Pack in February 2021 and was unanimously approved by the Oregon Lottery Commission six months later.

“We’re excited about the improved experience for our players – including the ability to make same game parlay bets,” said Pack of the new agreement.

“DraftKings is a premier provider in the US. We see benefits for lottery too, as the shift to DraftKings means fewer third-party service providers and a simpler financial structure for player accounts,” he added.

DraftKings’ contract with the Oregon Lottery marks the operator’s second exclusive lottery agreement after it secured a similar deal in 2019 with the New Hampshire Lottery.

Last year, Oregon Governor Kate Brown proposed a new bill (HB 2127) to expand the online sports betting industry beyond its current monopoly model.
