BetMGM has announced the launch of its Horse Racing mobile app in Louisiana and Florida, bringing the total number of states in which the app is live to three.

The app, which is also available in Ohio, allows bettors to place wagers on premier thoroughbred, harness, and quarter horse races at more than 200 tracks around the world, and features daily racing content, live streaming video, race replays and wagering opportunities on major racing events in the US.

Users can also use the app to access live streams of races from international events such as Royal Ascot and the Melbourne Cup.

“Today’s launch in Florida and Louisiana sets the stage for BetMGM to engage with a new customer base in the South,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt.

“The BetMGM Horse Racing app is a key part of our market expansion plans and will accelerate our continued growth into 2022.”

Betting on horse racing is permitted in Florida despite the several obstacles presented by the state on the path to legalised sports betting and iGaming.

In November, a District of Columbia judge ruled that the compact held between the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the state, which granted the tribe exclusive rights to online and in-person sports betting in Florida, violated the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and thus invalidated the agreement.

In Louisiana, the regulated sports betting market is expected to launch by mid-January 2022.
