Customers were able to withdraw their funds up until 8 May, but the casino product is now offline.
According to Betsson, this decision was made as part of the company’s current strategy for Germany, which has become a market clouded in confusion due to changing regulations.
Despite the closure of casino on the Betsson.de website, Betsson as a public company has not closed down operations in the country.The firm’s horseracing brand Racebets remains live in Germany and it still has a sportsbook licence. The company plans to launch regulated sports betting via its Betsson brand in the future.
A licence application has also been lodged for Betsson’s Rizk online casino brand.
“These decisions were taken as part of our current strategy for Germany and this was of course influenced by several factors,” a Betsson spokesperson told iGaming NEXT.
In June of 2021, Betsson entered a B2B sportsbook agreement with ProSiebenSat.1 subsidiary Masterpiece Gaming via a joint venture to provide software to a new JackOne sports betting brand for the German market.
Betsson has confirmed that venture is no longer operational after Masterpiece Gaming pulled the plug on JackOne last month.
