What Verification Requirements Do Hockey Betting Sites in the USA Have?
Before you can begin wagering real money on NHL fixtures at a legal US sportsbook, you must pass a brand’s KYC (know your customer) verification checks. This is required by all licensed betting sites in the USA, regardless of the jurisdiction, so understanding the requirements ahead of time can make the sign-up process a lot smoother.
When you join a US sportsbook, you will need to provide evidence to confirm your ID, date of birth, and full-time residential address, with the latter information required to prove that you live in a state where sports betting has been legalized. Typically, sportsbooks will require you to upload this evidence in the form of:
Your social security number
A copy/photograph of a government-issued ID – such as your passport or driver’s license
A copy/photograph of a recent utility bill or bank statement confirming your residential address
Typically, online sports betting retailers in the US use AI-powered tools to check and verify your supporting evidence automatically, with the process only taking a matter of minutes. However, if there are any discrepancies, your KYC verification may be subjected to a manual review, which may take longer.
How Do You Join a US Hockey Betting Site?
If you’ve never before registered with a legal sportsbook in your state, you may be unfamiliar with the process and how it plays out. So, here’s a quick, step-by-step look at how to get started with a legal hockey sports betting site.
Choose a sports betting site that is 100% legal and regulated in your state. Sportsbooks typically publish their legal coverage in their terms of service, so check this information out as a priority.
Consider the availability of a welcome bonus when registering with a new NHL sportsbook. Our experts have featured some sign-up promos you may wish to consider in the banners around this page.
SVisit your preferred sportsbook directly via the links on this page to make sure you land on the correct page. Then, tap “Sign Up” to register for a new account.
During registration, this is when you’ll need to complete the required verification checks. Along with providing evidence of your ID as part of a brand’s KYC process, you may also need to verify your email address and phone number.
With your account set up, all that remains is to deposit funds in order to place your first bet.
